Staff Profiles
Eiko Mizuno Gray (President)
Born in Nagano, Japan. After graduating from Toyo Eiwa Woman's University, Eiko Mizuno Gray went to Toronto to study English and Tourism. While working at a downtown travel agency, she did volunteer work at the Toronto International Film Festival. She was subsequently hired by the TIFF press office as a festival publicist in 1998, working there until 2008. She also worked at the press office of the International Film Festival Rotterdam from 2000 to 2004, promoting Japanese and Asian cinema. After coming back to Tokyo to live, she has worked at festivals including TOKYO FILMeX and the Tokyo International Film festival in various coordination capacities. She also held a position at world famous animation company Studio Ghibli to promote their films and products to the international market. She now works as an independent coordinator, publicist and subtitler.
Aside from her working career, in April 2011 she became fully involved in non-profit organization "Niji-iro Cinema" (official site in Japanese, blog) together with Mr. Yuichi Namiki and other volunteer members. Niji-iro Cinema offers free movie screenings and food in areas devastated by the earthquake and tsunami of March 11.
Jason Gray (Vice President, Creative Producer)
Born in the UK and raised in Toronto Canada, Jason Gray has a background in film. As a teenager, he published his own independent film fanzine, interviewing directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Peter Jackson and Dario Argento. He subsequently earned a degree in film at Toronto's Ryerson University, learning 16mm film production, film theory, screenwriting and acting. With a strong interest in Japanese cinema he came to Tokyo in 1998, acquainting himself with the culture for one year. After returning to Toronto and working in film advertising he returned to Japan in 2001 and has worked continuously in the local film industry as a translator, journalist and consultant.
Since 2006 he has served as the Japan correspondent for global film industry publication Screen International and has written on Japanese cinema for various newspapers, magazines, websites and books including The Japan Times, CNNGo and World Film Locations: Tokyo. He also serves as a translator and consultant for various film companies, festivals and individual directors. He has recently changed his focus back to the creative side of filmmaking. In 2011 he wrote and directed his first narrative film in Japan, entitled Yukuharu.
